Professional Chimney And Fireplace Inspections

Benjamin Franklin famously said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, and that’s as true with chimneys and fireplaces as it is with anything else.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), among others, recommend that homeowners have their chimneys professionally inspected every year. Proper inspections, along with regular chimney sweeping, are among the best preventative measures you can take when it comes to your chimney system.

A certified chimney technician, like the ones at Guaranteed Chimney Service, will go through your entire system, checking for damage, blockages, fire hazards, and other issues, and will keep you properly informed about the state of your system. Regular chimney inspections can also help you identify, locate, and address any problems while they’re minor issues, requiring minimal repairs.

More About The Three Different Levels Of Chimney Inspections

There are three different levels of inspection that are suitable for a variety of circumstances and conditions. When you call Guaranteed Chimney Service, we’ll recommend the level that makes the most sense for your system and the way you’re using it.

The Different Levels Of Inspection:

Level 1
Guaranteed Chimney Service technicians perform a basic Level 1 inspection when we sweep your chimney — we check all of the readily-accessible parts of your system’s interior and exterior, the appliance and connection. This kind of inspection is best if your system hasn’t changed at all since your last inspection (i.e. you’re using the same appliance and the same fuel, and you haven’t had any damages or noticed any changes, etc.).

Level 2
A Level 2 inspection is more thorough — we’ll go through the Level 1 process, but we’ll also check clearances and attics, basements or crawl spaces. If the home is being bought or sold, a Level 2 inspection is necessary. If there have been changes (i.e. the addition of a new appliance or a change in fuel types), a Level 2 inspection will make the most sense, too.

Level 3
The Level 3 inspection is the most involved, and can include removing permanent portions of the system or home (like drywall, a chimney crown, etc.). We’ll recommend this kind of inspection if there’s a possibility that serious hazards are hiding in your chimney system, and we can’t properly assess the situation with a Level 1 or Level 2 inspection.
