1. How frequently do I need to have my chimney swept?
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends having your chimney professionally inspected on a yearly basis and swept as needed. Doing so can keep your system in top working order, and can also alert you to any problems within the system before they lead to expensive repairs. You’ll also want to schedule an inspection and cleaning after burning ½ -1 cord of wood.

2. How long is the sweeping process?
The time it takes to clean a chimney can vary, but the average cleaning takes about one hour from to start to finish. If the need for repairs arises during the cleaning, they may be made at the same time, depending on the type of repair and the homeowner’s preferences. If repairs are made during the cleaning, the appointment may end up taking a little longer.

3. What is included in a chimney cleaning?
A chimney cleaning should include an evaluation and removal of creosote or other byproducts; as well as a thorough cleaning of the firebox, smoke chamber, smoke shelf, and flue. We’ll also check to make sure that your flue is appropriately sized for your appliance, and that your chimney’s components are properly installed and working as they were designed to. If your system suffers from glazed creosote buildup, our technicians will use specially-formulated products that will effectively remove this dangerous buildup, without damaging the chimney itself.

4. Is the cleaning process messy?
We know how hard you work to keep your home looking great, which is why we use specialized tools, vacuums, and drop clothes to ensure that your home stays clean during and after your appointment. We promise to treat your home with care and respect.

5. Will Guaranteed Chimney Service technicians make repairs without first consulting with the homeowner?

Should the need for repairs arise, we will always inform you as the homeowner, but we will never move forward with any work until we’ve discussed it with you.
